After Hanno’s home in Numidia is destroyed, and he’s brought to the Colosseum to fight, he impresses the stable-master Macrinus. He offers Hanno the opportunity to kill the man who destroyed his home if he wins enough fights. As Hanno ascends through the ranks of the gladiators, revelations about his lineage and growing discontent for the corrupt ruling emperors, send fractures running through the empire of Rome as different men fight with their lives to become its ruler.
