Tony Lip, an Italian-American bouncer, is hired to drive Don Shirley, an African-American classical pianist, on an eight-week concert tour through the racially segregated Deep South in 1962. As they face rampant racism and danger, including arrests and violent encounters, their initially clashing personalities give way to a deep friendship that challenges social barriers and transforms them both.
