In 1973, the young Alysia Abbott’s mother is killed in a car crash. Her father, Steve, decides to move them out to San Francisco, where he can finally live openly as a gay man. Although Alysia’s youth is unconventional for the time, later in life she begins to make sense of it—and contends with the AIDS crisis affecting her community.
